La Serena - Copiapó

 This tour visits the Atacama Desert, some of the Pacific Ocean's most beautiful beaches along the South American coast, parts of  the Andes Mountains where you will see the world's highest volcano, Ojos del Salado, of 6893 meters (22 615 ft.) altitude,  the Pedernales and Maricunga salt flats, and finally the Negro Francisco Lake, high in the Andes.                  

Day 1 -  Arrival at Santiago, Chile.

    Reception at the airport and travel to La Serena by plane.
    Welcome dinner in La Serena.

Day 2 -  Leave La Serena at 8:30.

    La Serena - Vicuña along the Elqui River - Paihuano - Pisco Elqui - La Serena.
    208 km. (129 mi.); ± 8 hours; overnight at hotel.

Day 3 -  Leave La Serena at 8:30.

     La Serena - Quebrada Honda - Caleta Temblador - Chungungo - El Tofo - Pan-American
     Highway-Trapiche - Los Choros - Carrizalillo - Chañar de Aceituna - Domeyko - Vallenar.
    250 km. (155 mi.); ± 8 hours; overnight at hotel.

Day 4 -  Leave Vallenar at 8:30.

    Vallenar - Huasco - El Boratillo - Carrizal Bajo - Caleta Totoral - Bahía Salada -  Barranquilla -
     Poza de Los Toyos.
    150 km. (93 mi.); ± 7 hours; camp overnight (tents and sleeping bags).

Day 5 -  Leave Poza de Los Toyos at 12:00 noon.

    Poza de Los Toyos - Puerto Viejo - Caleta Cisne - Bahía Inglesa - Caldera.
    60 km. (37 mi.); ± 5 hours; overnight at hotel.

Day 6 -   Leave Caldera at 8:30.

     Caldera - Playa Rodillo - Playo Obispito - Playa Flamenco - Chañaral - Pan de Azucar National
     Park- Chañaral.
     250 km. (155 mi.); ± 8 hours; overnight at hotel.

Day 7 -   Leave Chañaral at 8:00.

     Chañaral - Diego de Almagro - El Salvador - Salar de Pedernales - La Ola - Salar de Maricunga -
     Volcán Ojos del Salado - Laguna del Negro Francisco.
     420 km. (260 mi.); ± 8 hours; camp overnight (tents and sleeping bags).  Be prepared for near
     freezing temperatures due to the high desert conditions.

Day 8 -   Leave Laguna del Negro Francisco at 12:00 noon.

     Laguna del Negro Francisco - La Puerta - Copiapó.
     280 km. (174 mi.); ± 4 hours; overnight at hotel. 
     Farewell dinner.

Day 9 -   Copiapó to Santiago by plane
